How Do I Choose a Surgeon?

Whether rhinoplasty is desired for functional or cosmetic reasons, your choice of a qualified facial plastic surgeon is of paramount importance. While there is little risk for the patient, it demands a high degree of surgical skill for two very important reasons.

Some doctors never learn to perform rhinoplasty properly, as demonstrated by the stories of unhappy patients whose noses have obviously been "done". Some people think that they can recognize when someone has had a nose job, but they can actually only tell the ones that were done poorly.

A top facial plastic surgeon must be able to do more than one kind of nose. He has to be proficient at changing a nose to fit the individual face. If you can look at someone and know which doctor did his nose, be wary of letting that doctor operate on you. It takes a great deal of experience to consistently make good nose changes.

A facial plastic surgeon is typically board certified in otolaryngology, the specialty addressing surgery of the head and neck. These surgeons perform the majority of elective facial plastic surgery procedures in the United States. Facial plastic surgeons have spent five to six years in postgraduate surgical training, including a year in general surgery and at least four more years specializing in head, neck, and facial plastic surgery.

Many facial plastic surgeons are trained in both ENT (ear, nose, and throat) and facial cosmetic surgery, which provides you with the highest level of training and expertise. The surgeons at our clinic perform the vast majority of rhinoplasty surgeries in the region.
